I got a call during the week that inspired my headline today, but before I share what the call was about, let me tell you a story about an experience I had in my secondary school days…..
I went to a Girls military school for the first two years of Secondary school and though the discipline was good for me, it was not an emotionally healthy experience for me and my parents withdrew me before the end of the second year..
I was then put in a day school. However, because I arrived school in the last term of the school year, there were no spaces in the model classes, so I was put in the class for the ‘rejects’ and ‘ misfits’..
I enjoyed the riotous and somewhat rebellious existence in that class, but at the end of that term, I barely passed and was promoted on trial! .
My Dad was in shock because I had previously being a model student getting straight A’s and now I was barely pushed over to the next class probably because of my Mum’s goodwill since she was also a teacher in the school. .
After my Dad recovered from the shock, he swung into action and took over my schedule. I had to wake up to read two hours every night from midnight to 2am. This became my routine until I passed my Junior WAEC with a few A’s and went on to senior secondary school. .
By this time I had begun to get better grades and I was beginning to enjoy the discipline and accountability. Suffice to say; the almost never made it graduated at the top of her class because of the efforts of my Dad to pull me out of failure and mediocrity..
Why am I sharing this story?.
I am sharing this story because of the call I got on Wednesday….
I had a heat induced headache that evening so I was trying to take a short nap when the call came in. It was from Nonye of Laviva Bridals(Hey girl! if you are reading) and she was calling to tell me she had more or less smashed her revenue target for the year!.
She immediately lifted my mood and I shared a quick post about it on Instagram..
It all started when she joined the group coaching circle in January this year and we had a series of planning and goal setting exercises that went beyond just writing down the goals to actually breaking them down in processes and methods to achieve them. It also included monthly accountability sessions with me..
She told me she woke up every day looking at those goals and made sure she was doing something to move her closer to achieve it! I told her how proud of her I was and off course she will be joining the business leaders circle again in 2017. .
Do you notice a similarity between the two stories? We both leveraged accountability and support to improve our performance. And the good news is; it can work for anyone!.
Registration is currently open for you to join the business leaders circle so you can join a group of progressive business owners who will achieve great success and smash their goals in 2017..
The more important part for me is the networking and support the group will offer to each other as we all grow together..
If you want to play differently in the new year and surround your self with other champions while I provide advisory support for your business all year round, then join the business leaders circle..
