UPLEVEL 2.0 by TALE ALIMI

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Was there ever a time you woke up to the nagging feeling that there is more to life? Not because you hadn’t already achieved something but because you recognized that there was more you could become? Perhaps it was recently or long ago. Once you noticed that discontent and desire for more, what did it inspire in you and your work?

Uplevel answers that question using personal experience and hands actionable insight.

Chapter 1 — Where Are You Now?

Cognitive dissonance that was what I experienced on the morning of January 2018, feeling restless even though I had made some remarkable progress in my life and career. I and my team had supported over 5,000 small businesses after I left the comfort of paid employment in 2015. But I knew it was time for me to step into a higher calling.

I took a step of faith which led me on a personal journey to Up-level. And I learnt a crucial lesson that success is not a destination you arrive at, rather, it is an accumulation of the changes you experience on the journey.

Chapter 2 — When the cock crows-Seasons change

What do you do when you put your energy into something and it flops badly?

This chapter helps readers navigate this question.

Mainstream media will have people believe that success stories are just that, ‘success’ stories, however, no one achieves success overnight. That is why this chapter explains the realities of success to the reader, noting that what they can do after a failure is to learn from their mistakes, seek to get more information, and do it better or differently the next time around.

Chapter 3 — It’s time for more-more of what?

People are either motivated intrinsically or extrinsically. They are either motivated because of the promise of inner satisfaction or external rewards, and from observation, a healthy balance of both are important to get more out of life.

But how can one recognize what matters to them? It starts with personal motivation, that thing that compels one to do what needs to be done in order to get what one wants to get.

To explore this even further, this chapter discusses how to quantify and qualify ‘more’, that is, what matters to the reader. It does so by asking readers specific questions like: ‘How do I feel when I do something to make other people’s life better?’

Chapter 4 — The “BIG” picture

Creation happens twice; first in the mind and then in reality.

This observation is the basis of this chapter, because everything that is “reality” today is a product of someone’s imagination. However, certain mental picture can only be formed with mindful exercises like meditation.

But meditation cannot achieve results alone. That is why this chapter admonishes readers to let go of certain things in order to translate thoughts to reality. They include:

  • Past pain and hurt
  • Past failures and disappointments
  • Limiting mindset

The content of this chapter shows readers the difference that mindset and belief systems can make in the results they achieve.

Chapter 5 — Faith-Full

How do you translate your big picture from your mind to reality?

With the importance of mindset and empowering self-belief addressed in the previous chapter, this chapter shows readers how to transport their desired success from the land of dreams to the land of reality using the vehicle of “faith”.

Faith is the vehicle that translates things that previously existed in the mind to the physical, and it works both ways. Faith is required to bring something good to pass and to allow something negative into one’s life. So in this chapter, readers get to see how to become so full of faith that they translate their big picture to reality?

Chapter 6 — Fill your tank-Build capacity

Simply, the message of this chapter is this:

“When you want to go on a long journey, you need a different kind of preparation compared to what you need when you are going on a short journey. Therefore, if you want to reach for much more than you have ever achieved, you have to increase your capacity to achieve more.”

The message of this chapter is further expanded with key lessons on building capacity, e.g., the importance of mental toughness and practice.

Chapter 7 — Rally the troops-Build a Team

No one ever succeeded on their own. It is an inevitable factor behind success at scale. This is why the focus of this chapter is on teams.

This chapter explores different types of team members: the visionary, communicator, strategist, analyst, and implementer, all of which require an understanding of how best they function in order to maximize their strengths.

In this chapter, readers see how to lead their team effectively by designing a clear roadmap, defining roles and responsibilities, and more.

Chapter 8Shoot Your Shot

Often, people wait for success to happen to them, but everyone is 100% responsible for their life.

This chapter admonishes readers to go for what they want by being decisive about it. More so their willingness to take action in the direction of their desires is an indication of belief that what they desire will become a reality.

Chapter 9 — Grow Through

Fundamentally, this chapter can be summed up this way, ‘what you want wants you, what you desire is available to you. You only need to grow into the version of you that can receive it.’

Using personal anecdotes and practical tips, this chapter admonishes readers to become the kind of people who can attract success. It also shows them how to become those kind of people.

Chapter 10 — Marathon Moves

It is easier to get hyped by a goal or a dream than it is to stay the course and see it come to life, which is why perseverance is key to achieving greatness.

In this chapter, readers are shown how to generate the fuel for perseverance through self care, rest, prayer, affirmation, and gratitude. It also shows readers the role that failure (even though often avoided) plays on the journey to becoming more, as well as how to handle failure when it does happen.

Uplevel 2.0 highlights what is needed to excel at the next level. It breaks down steps and emphasizes the fact that success is hard work with consistency, not an overnight thing. It teaches readers that instead of giving up, it is better to do an audit and re-evaluate how to breakthrough.
