I learned something interesting a couple of months ago which I will like to call the place and space difference. .
What it means is that two people can be in the same place but not be in the same space..
For example, two people might walk into a crowded room, one of them could see the crowd and think; these are a crowd of prospective customers. The other person might see the same crowd and think; these are a crowd of time wasters who would not add much value to me..
What is the difference between the two of them? It is how they see things!.
This sight I am talking about does not refer to what you see with your two eyes. I am actually referring to what you see with your minds eye. That is why in every situation, some people will see opportunity while others will see problems..
They might be in the same place, but not in the same space in their minds..
I went to a business conference last week and one of the speakers shared the story of how she started her business..
.
She said when others looked at Nigeria and saw a large population of majorly poor and unemployed people, what she saw were mouths that needed to be fed, which led her to start her own processed food company..
What you see is what drives the decision you will make in your life and business..
In today’s challenging(depending on how you see it) economy, some people have said we are in a crisis situation in Nigeria and even the world. However a famous quote by Winston Churchill says ‘Never let a crisis go to waste’..
You have an incredible opportunity to change the way you see things and leverage the current challenges to create something truly remarkable..
In my interviews with Ikenna Okonkwo of heels.com.ng and Kemi Lewis of KL’s Natural beauty bar, I noticed that both of them created their businesses because they saw an opportunity in situations that people could have seen as a crisis. .
I heard a talk given by Tony Robbins recently where he said the best time to start a business is during an economic downturn and as counter-intuitive as that sounds, it actually makes sense..
The reason is simple; If you can start something and survive during a downturn, when things improve like they will because life is in cycles, you will come out on the top with a thriving business. Another reason is you will most likely make smarter decisions as you have limited resources to waste!.
So if you are thinking of starting a new business now, it might just be a good time! Get ready for the startup stars boot camp& mentoring coming up in February..
If you are wondering if there are any opportunities around you, I will like to encourage you to take a step back and look again. No one is ever really stuck and without options, it is only a matter of perspective..
What do you see ?.
‘Tale.
