What is your reference point?

What is your reference point

Hello!.

Top of the week to you..

“There is no such thing as a new idea”…..

Have you heard that quote before? it is by Mark Twain, an American Writer and humorist..

Now as I reflect on the quote, I am caught between agreeing and disagreeing..

I almost disagree because Mark Twain died in 1910 which was many decades before Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook and I don’t know if anything like that existed during his time, so it seems to me like a new idea….

However, at the same time, I kind of agree with him because even though the internet did not exist during his time to host an application like Facebook, there were social gathering and clubs that promoted relating and keeping in touch with friends and stuff..

Which brings me to the middle ground that will serve as the pointer to taking an existing an idea and making it new or at least making it your own as you Uplevel and create the business, career and life  you desire..

This Mid-point for me is called reference points..

Your reference point can be another individual, brand or business whose actions or activities resonates with you and inspires you to build from there..

In chapter 3 of my book Uplevel, I share how important finding reference points were for me in clarifying my career and business trajectory. You will also learn how to identify them..

You can watch my Uplevel weekly video below to hear more about it.

One of the important reference points for me is Mrs Adenike Ogunlesi(Founder Ruff&Tumble and Non-executive Director Lafarge) who wrote the forward for my book Uplevel..

She is a reference point for me of what is possible for success in business and life. .

I am excited that she will be hosting her own exclusive Uplevel workshop which we have tagged ‘Uplevel conversations with Adenike Ogunlesi’. .

It is an exclusive event holding on the 23rd of April and attendance will be by nomination and application. If you want to be part of this event, stay close to my Instagram page as I will announce details there later this week..

I will also be having an Uplevel book reading and Q&A at Patabah book store Surulere a week after that on the 30th of April.
