In the last few weeks, I have enjoyed the opportunity of speaking in a few conferences to guide business owners to think differently so they can up-level their business..

Yesterday at the Lagos business meetup, we had a delightful time of networking, learning and growth. It was a great conversation on blue ocean strategies for business growth in the new year and suffice to say, we had a practical yet intellectually stimulating discussion on making strategic decisions for growth..

During one of my speaking engagements, I analyzed a typical industry space and I said they were usually comprised of three types of businesses or business people:

1. The normal people-these are the industry followers, doing what others are doing or what I fondly call me-too strategy. They make up 94% of the industry.

2.The experts-these are the pacesetters in the industry and usually the recognized top players in the industry and this makes up 5% of the industry.

3. The Masters-they are the rare 1% in the industry that make the rule and lead the pack. They are the industry unicorns..

With this analysis you will find that to get the most leverage from your industry, you should aim to be at least top 5%!.

How will you do that? By doing things differently from the majority..

I interviewed a past participant of Accelerate Business growth boot camp; Kemi Lewis, CEO-Kls Natural beauty bar to find out how she was doing a year after the bootcamp ( You can watch the interview here) and she said something that struck me.

She said; ‘if you want to go from where you are right now to where you have envisioned, you first need to raise you standards because whatever you are doing right now is clearly not getting you result’.
