you need the right tools

I have a weird habit

I usually make decisions using one of my two ‘brains’.

My Accountant brain(I have a first degree in Accounting, so I try to save costs and be super logical) or my faith brain( I go out of my comfort zone and stretch myself to create the life I desire).

I want to be a woman of faith always, but sometimes my accountant brain prevails.

One of such times was when I had to replace my running shoes.

Because I run long distances, my running shoes have an average life span of 5-6 months.

When my last pair hit the mark and it was time to replace, I had a dilemma… most of the sport stores in the malls that sold international brands were extremely expensive and my ‘Accountant brain’ could not phantom why I would spend so much on a running shoe that was not making me money 🙂

So I came up with a ‘bright idea’. I decided to go to the National Stadium to buy a new pair of shoes. Surely the upcoming athletes did not have to pay so much for shoes so I reckoned they would be affordable.

I was right! I was able to snag a pair of ‘Nike’ shoes for one fifth of the prices I got in the malls. I was ecstatic and my ‘Accountant brain’ had a good dance for coming up with such a smart idea!

Alas, a few days after I bought the shoe, I participated in a night solidarity run with some of my running club members and I could not get past the first mile! My legs hurt very badly and it seemed I had sprained my ankle.

Suffice to say, I was not able to run after that for almost one month. The diagnosis: I bought the wrong shoes! They were not even meant for running like I was told. They were too heavy to run with and I had injured myself in the process.

I ate humble pie and decided to invest in the correct pair of shoes. Thankfully my sister was traveling at that time and was able to buy them for me for a little less than the malls.

The right tools make all the difference. My new pair of shoes was ‘magic’ from the first day till now.
