A BUSINESS COACH CAN HELP YOUR BUSINESS GROW IN NIGERIA
A business coach is a key driver to growing your business today. I worked in consulting for a few years and some of my best experiences was working with small businesses and seeing them transform into formidable businesses. In those years, the transformation usually happened when we had our first meeting and conversation and we began to discuss the possibilities of their business and where it could grow to.
I didn’t know about business coaching then, but I knew I liked the results from those conversations better than carrying out a pure play consulting brief. As my career changed and I began to explore how I could work with more business owners to achieve outstanding results and grow their businesses, I discovered business coaching. I was privileged to attend a training at the coaching Academy United Kingdom to learn the skills of personal coaching and that is how my career as a business coach started.
Who is a business coach?
The word coaching became popular in sports where you would find an experienced person coaching other talented people on ways to maximize their skills and optimize their abilities. This is a very similar occurrence in the business world with a business coach.
As a business coach, I work with business owners to uncover and maximize the possibilities of their businesses. A lot of times, when clients come to me, they are overwhelmed with business challenges or they don’t have clarity about their business concept or current business situation. As a coach I guide them to see clearer and work with them to develop action plans that would take them from where they are to where they need to be.
Which brings me to some benefits of working with a business coach:
- Clear goal setting: you have probably heard of the benefits of goal setting and a good business coach will guide you to set goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time bound, exciting and relevant to where you want to go in business. When you have clear goals that challenge you positively, you are more likely to go further faster.
- Accountability and correction: As we grow older as adults, we have very few people who hold us accountable and are able to correct us. And this is important because often times, we don’t see our blind spots, so we need someone who has our interest to hold us accountable and correct us in areas where we are going wrong. Every great sports team has a good coach that holds them accountable.

They most likely understand the best practice in various industries and can bring it to bare in coaching you for your business success.

Your business cannot grow faster than your personal growth so when you work with a good business coach, they will identify areas where you need growth and guide you to achieve greater personal growth so your business can also grow.
- More effective business planning: A good business coach will guide you to plan your business effectively. Each stage of your business requires a different set of activities and your business coach should work with your to map out the required activities and strategies. A business coach should also guide you to prioritize your activities so you will know which aspects of your life and business should come first because they appreciate the true success is holistic and not one sided.
To decide on which business coach to work with, consider the following:
- What do I hope to achieve? This is the most important question to ask because it will determine the kind of business coach you want to work with. If you want to improve your strategy, sales& marketing, you will need a coach with that expertise. If you want to improve your online or digital presence, you will need a coach with such expertise. If you need clarity on your business concept and idea and need guidance in launching it, you have to ensure that the coach has experience and expertise in that area.
- How much time am I willing to commit to the process? Change and transformation is a process and takes time. You have to have an estimate of the amount of time it will take you to achieve the results you are looking for and make sure you are able to commit to it. You can ask the coach for the packages they have available and choose the one that will work best for you to achieve your desired results.
- How much will it cost me? A business coach will cost you some money, but usually when you work with a good business coach, you will be able to recoup a significant return on your return on investment. There is nothing as good as having a third eye to guide you to create the business you truly desire.
